‘WHATTTT?? Noooo’: Lionel Richie Hospitalized Again Days After Outing With Longtime Girlfriend as Rep Issues Urgent Update Amid Tour Shakeup
Music legend Lionel Richie has fans concerned after reports claim he was hospitalized again.
Just days after the singer dined in the Los Angeles area with his longtime girlfriend, Lisa Parigi, Richie was back in a medical facility for the third time in four months.
It was the Commodore singer’s first public appearance since his last hospitalization earlier this month.
Richie’s repeated hospitalizations this year have intensified concern among fans, adding to growing worries about the singer’s health.
This time, the “American Idol” judge just underwent surgery to combat his health issues.
TMZ reported that the Grammy Award winner canceled three dates on the “Sing a Song All Night Long Tour,” co-headlined by Earth, Wind & Fire.
The R&B icon and the renowned funk band have called off their upcoming shows in San Francisco on Sept. 26, Chicago on Sept. 30, and Columbus, Ohio, on October 2.
A rep confirmed that Lionel was stepping back and shared an update on his condition.
A statement to Atlanta Black Star read, “Lionel underwent a common procedure for Atrial fibrillation (AFib). The doctor said everything went perfectly. Lionel is doing great but will take some time off and will be back on stage soon.”
Richie’s latest health scare comes after a string of concerning moments onstage.
Back in June, the 77-year-old singer ended one of his “Sing a Song All Night Long Tour” shows early.
Video shows him performing inside the Grand Casino Arena in St. Paul, Minnesota, on June 24 while seated on stage.
“When you’re feeling dizzy, sit your ass down,” Richie told the crowd moments before leaving the stage. Paramedics transported him from the venue to a hospital.
Weeks later, the former Commodores lead vocalist told his Instagram followers that he was “doing well.”
Richie performed while sitting down again at his concert in St. Louis in late August. Prior to leaving the city, he had a three-day stay in a local Intensive Care Unit for cardiac testing and monitoring.
According to the Mayo Clinic, AFib is an irregular heart rhythm, which can lead to blood clots in the heart and an increased risk of stroke or heart failure.
Richie’s multiple hospital stints this year have raised serious concerns among his supporters on social media.
“Lionel is rich. He should not have to tour. He should focus on ‘American Idol,’ or something like ‘The Voice,’” read one tweet.
A second person on X advised, “He should take his time and have proper rest. I hope he recovers soon.”
Richie is among several veteran stars in their 70s and beyond who continue performing for packed audiences, despite the physical demands of touring. Some fans have questioned whether artists at this stage should scale back their schedules.
“I know the elders still love performing, but at some point, they gotta just rest,” one fan stated.
Someone else who agreed wrote, “WHATTTT?? . Noooo, @LionelRichie . ok, I’m usually the one to encourage artists to go on tour, however, in Mr. Richie’s case, I would tell him to CANCEL EVERY SHOW due to health issues. It’s not worth the stress Sir. We love you and want you to enjoy a peaceful & relaxing life.”
Other people focused on offering Richie well wishes, writing, “Prayers for Lionel. We must cherish the greats” or “Not Lionel. Smfh. Prayers.”

Richie, dressed in a dark outfit and white sneakers, was seen at Mr. Chow’s in Beverly Hills on Sept. 19. He and Parigi, 36, attended a dinner party at the upscale restaurant.
Photographers captured Richie giving two thumbs up while standing outside his vehicle. It was his first public appearance since his hospital stay in St. Louis three weeks prior.
