Bad Bunny makes Emmy history as Super Bowl halftime show wins record-breaking 7 awards
The Puerto Rican superstar earned his first Emmy as his Super Bowl LX halftime show became the most-awarded halftime production in Television Academy history.
Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime performance has made Emmy history, collecting seven awards at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards and becoming the most-awarded Super Bowl halftime show ever recognized by the Television Academy.
The haul came during the first night of the 78th Creative Emmy Awards on Sept. 5, where “The Apple Music Super Bowl LX Halftime Show Starring Bad Bunny” emerged as the night’s biggest winner.
The production took home trophies for Outstanding Variety Special (Live), directing, music direction, choreography, sound mixing, lighting design, and technical direction and camerawork.
The seven award sweep surpasses the previous record for a Super Bowl halftime production, putting Bad Bunny’s performance in a category of its own among the event’s increasingly elaborate musical spectacles.
The Outstanding Variety Special (Live) win was particularly significant for Bad Bunny. The Puerto Rican superstar earned his first Emmy for his involvement in the production, with his credits including both lead performer and executive producer.
The recognition also highlighted the extensive team responsible for bringing the performance to television audiences. Jay-Z, who executive produced the show through Roc Nation, was among the other notable winners. Several members of the production team also added another Emmy to their records after previously being recognized for the 2022 Super Bowl halftime show.
Bad Bunny’s halftime performance, staged at Levi’s Stadium, went beyond a conventional concert set. The production moved through a series of visually distinct settings and incorporated Puerto Rican cultural imagery, large-scale choreography and elaborate staging. The show also featured appearances from notable artists including Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
The Emmy sweep adds another accolade to a performance that generated substantial attention when it aired during Super Bowl LX. It also extends the growing influence of Latin music on one of American television’s most-watched annual stages.
The Creative Arts Emmys primarily recognize the technical, production and creative work behind television programming. The main 78th Emmy Awards ceremony will take place Sept. 14 in Los Angeles, with Mariska Hargitay serving as host for the NBC broadcast.
