Authorities say a man was charged after he found his ex-girlfriend in bed with a Connecticut firefighter, then attacked her and fatally shot her new lover.

Court documents obtained by WABC say 41-year-old Jabari Bush broke into his ex’s home on March 28 and found her in bed with another man, who authorities identified as 41-year-old Terrence Cramer.

Bush’s ex-girlfriend told police that Bush shouted, “You’re here with another man!” then punched her and shot Cramer.

Police and first responders found Cramer on the bedroom floor with a gunshot wound to his thigh. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Bush was arrested after a brief chase with police.

Court documents say Bush kept close tabs on his ex-girlfriend. He allegedly sent her a barrage of text messages and made numerous unwanted phone calls. He also allegedly showed up unwanted at her place of work two days before the shooting, CBS News reported.

Bush’s criminal record shows he was convicted of assault in 2004. Over the last several years, he has held down a job as a mechanic.

Cramer was a father of two young boys and served as a firefighter for the city of Bridgeport for nine years.

During Bush’s arraignment, nearly 60 of his colleagues in the field turned out to the court hearing to support Cramer and his family.

“Everyone counted on him, relied on him to show up, especially during the fire. I remember seeing him at a couple of fires where he was a nozzleman and just fearless. Going in, doing his job and doing what was expected of him,” Assistant Fire Chief Armando Cora said after the arraignment.

“If you didn’t know him, you wanted to know him, when you got to know him, you wanted to emulate his qualities — his humility, his friendliness, he never did not have a smile on his face,” said Bridgeport Fire Dept. Lt. Christian A. Teague.

His family echoed the Bridgeport firefighters’ sentiments, remembering Cramer as kind, courageous, and passionate about firefighting.

“He liked saving people because it made him feel good, and he just always wanted to be a firefighter,” Cramer’s 10-year-old son, Jackson, said.

“It’s very heartbreaking. There are so many questions I have as far as why, how, answers that I might never get,” Cramer’s stepdaughter, Shanyah Neal Walker, said.

Bush was charged with murder, home invasion, and criminal possession of a firearm. His bond was set at $3 million.
