‘You Gotta Take the Shirt Off Unc’: Will Smith’s ‘Thirst Trap’ Goes Left When Fans Point Out He’s Doing It Wrong
Actor Will Smith has become somewhat of an Instagram savant when it comes to the content he shares on his social media page. The veteran Hollywood star isn’t shy about trying new online trends either.
The actor recently tried his hand at “thirst trapping,” but it quickly flopped after fans jokingly pointed out that he was doing the deed all wrong. On Monday, March 8, Will took to his social media account and uploaded a clip of himself floating up after being submerged in a pool. He appeared to be at a resort in Dubai. He captioned the hilarious post, “First time thirst trapping…” Will asked his 51.4 million fans, “Am I doing it right? #dubai.”
The video garnered over 262,400 likes from fans, with some offering Will advice on how to properly “thirst trap,” including one fan who wrote, “You gotta take the shirt off unc.” Another user commented, “Not technically a thirst trap, but quite funny!! .” “No; you’re wearing too much clothing. ,” a third quipped.
Several other fans came to Will’s defense following his thirst mishap, jokingly teasing the star about showing off for his audience. One user commented, “Right we not all gone sit here an act like will ain’t fine that’s what we not bout to do.” Someone else wrote, “How can you not love him Will you will always be good looking Zaddy (nah fr Will you know fine).”
The Fresh Prince joined the social media platform later than most, Dec. 14, 2017, to be exact — roughly seven years after the app made its debut. His inaugural photo was that of a duck-face selfie, because how else would one make their Instagram debut?
He was quickly tutored by other celebrity friends like Ellen DeGeneres, who taught him the dos and don’ts of the site. Singer Justin Timberlake also gave Will a quick lesson on what the hashtag TBT stood for.
“This is called a #TBT. Which means Throwback Thursday. Which is a photo you post on Thursdays that you like, that was taken in the past,” Timberlake wrote, “I like this photo because it’s a photo of you and me. And we look like we are having a serious conversation about something very important. And that makes me feel important.”
Since then Will has taken the platform by storm, playing tricks on his family and friends with some pretty eye-catching effects.
