‘You Got Away With it Stop Screaming You Guilty’: O.J. Simpson Says the Possibility of a Chance Encounter With His Ex-Wife’s Killer Is Enough to Keep Him Out of L.A.
‘You Got Away With it Stop Screaming You Guilty’: O.J. Simpson Says the Possibility of a Chance Encounter With His Ex-Wife Nicole Brown Simpson’s Killer Is Enough to Keep Him Out of L.A., Social Media Reacts
O.J. Simpson insists he is not a murderer, and he will likely continue to reiterate the fact every chance he gets.
The public has long suspected Simpson as the person responsible for his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman’s gruesome deaths in 1994. A year later the NFL Hall of Famer stood trial for the double-murder case where he was represented by attorneys Johnny Cochran and Robert Kardashian, among others. In the end, an alleged botched investigation of the murders and Cochran’s infamous “If it [glove suspected of being used during the murders] doesn’t fit, you must acquit” closing statement did just that — landed Simpson an acquittal. He later was found civilly liable for both deaths.
Since then he has made it a point to lament his lack of involvement in the killings. He went so far as to pen a book, “O.J. Simpson: If I Did It, Here’s How It Happened,” hypothesizing exactly how the murders would have occurred. But regardless of any court rulings, or his own declarations of innocence, Simpson is aware not everyone had bought into his story, especially when it comes to the broader Los Angeles community where the murders took place.
In fact, the Heisman Trophy winner says the stigma of being an alleged murderer who got away with double-homicide has made him avoid the city for over two decades.
“The L.A. thing, unfortunately, some people wrongfully believe something, but I moved on,” the former University of Southern California running back told The Athletic. “I have trouble with L.A.. People may think this is self-serving, but I might be sitting next to whoever did it. I really don’t know who did it.”
The thought of Simpson being the least bit concerned about Brown and Goldman’s killer left people both entertained and confused. Many could not help from posting on social that maybe he should avoid mirrors and objects that would show his own reflection. Others were simply dumbfounded that man acquitted of double homicide would continue discussing the infamous incident all together.
“If that’s my story and I’m sticking to it were a person ”
“He gotta let it rest, n—-a you got away with it stop screaming you’re guilty ”
“Now Orange Juice…you be doing the most. ”
“Why he gotta incriminate himself every chance he get”
But that wasn’t all “The Juice” had to say about the cold case.
“I figured eventually somebody would confess to something, you know?” He went on to say that he had even deduced who that person may be. “I had one suspect I told my lawyers to look at. I still think he might be involved, but I can’t talk about it.”
Either way, Simpson says he’s been living a good life — sans the trial of the century and a nine year prison stint for armed robbery — full of fan photos, hugs from adoring women and retirement without financial concerns.
“People truly care for me. You don’t know who truly cares about you until you’ve gone through some serious stuff, and I’ve gone through some serious stuff. The media won’t say it, but that is my life. I’m living a good life.”
