‘We Women These days Need to Pick the Right Man’: Porsha Williams Defends Herself from Backlash for Saying She ‘Picked’ the Father of Her Child
Porsha Williams is clapping back at the haters after she was criticized for saying that she “picked” her ex-fiance Dennis McKinley to be the father of her child. In a video reshared by Dish Nation’s Twitter account on Jan. 21, Williams was asked to explain comments she made in a recent episode of the “Real Housewives of Atlanta.”
Her co-host Gary with Da Tea said, “Some people criticized you Porsha, honey, for sharing that information. So what you have to say, darling?”
Confused as to why anyone would have a problem with what she said, Porsha asked, “Tell me what they had. What problems did they have? The fact that I chose somebody that has a job? I want to know what problem.”
She continued, “We women these days need to pick the right men, honey! Need to pick a man with a job, with a good head on his shoulders, he want a family, all of them things was checked off, honey, so it went down!”
What got Porsha in trouble with her haters was a scene from the Jan. 10 “RHOA” episode that showed her talking about being disappointed things did not work out with her ex-fiancé Dennis McKinley, who is also the father of her 1-year-old daughter Pilar Jhena’. To her sister and mother she said, “When it comes to PJ, the parts that I do get sad about is that I wish we could have worked out and for Dennis to be in the house. But when I look at it, I know that Dennis is such a powerful father figure. I honestly feel like as much as I’m going to put into her to know about the real s–t going on in the world, he will too.”
She further explained that she “picked” McKinley because he had all the right qualities a woman would want in a man. She said, “I laid down and I knew what was going to happen. I was like, ‘Oh, he got his own place.’ Look the leg started right here. ‘Oh, he got his own place. He got his own business. Oh, he ain’t got no kids. Oh, he said he wants marriage. Oh, he wants to be with me. Oh, he said I’m cute. Impregnate me,” she said just before falling on the floor and making her mother and sister laugh.
When a trailer for the episode featuring that scene hit the internet, some fans criticized the reality TV star for her comments, saying they were “cringy,” “embarrassing,” and “desperate.”
