A list of your favorite actors and comedians had a more eventful night than most who attended the 2022 Oscar Awards Sunday, March 27. According to online footage from the red carpet, Tiffany Haddish had a run-in on the red carpet with an ET reporter Lauren Zima.

As the 42-year-old comedian approached, the reporter asked, “Did you do a little costume change?”

A confused Haddish looked at the reporter and said, “Uhh, I’m not wearing a costume. I’m wearing Dolce & Gabbana. It’s called an evening gown, darling. No one’s paying me for this. I paid for it. It’s custom. Thank you.”

Haddish looked stunning in a green strapless dress, which also received a back-handed compliment from the reporter who nervously said, “Time of death for me right now. You look gorgeous.”

The “Night School” star seemed to laugh it off, adding, “This is not an acting gig. This is my life. This what fame look like. This what success look like. This what money look like. This what it look like.”

It’s unclear exactly how their exchange ended, but fans in The Neighborhood Talk’s comments were not feeling the reporter’s remarks. Yet, most saluted the Grammy-winning and Emmy-winning comedian for not letting anyone play about her status in Hollywood. Here’s what a few others had to say.

“A classy check because the [white people] do be trying it & I bet she’ll think twice about it again. Shouldn’t have to demand respect, but I’m glad she did.”

“Period @tiffanyhaddish! Please tell her, ‘don’t play with you.’”

“When she said time of death Tiffany should’ve said well, ‘Rest In Peace DARLING.’”

“Loved how she corrected her & spoke affirmations over herself!!”

“That was the second slap up the night.”

Fans also brought up other happenings from Sunday night, including Beyoncé’s opening performance. The first “slap-up” came moments before Will Smith won his first Oscar Award for Best Actor in a Lead Series. The actor gracefully walked across the stage to slap Chris Rock in the face for poking fun at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith.

One person joked, “[Haddish] just laughing like Will before he got up and slapped dude.”

Another said, “What was in that Oscar’s room, chile? Beyoncé came out, and this how y’all act?”

Opposing viewers felt Haddish took the reporter’s comments out of context and made the moment more significant than what it was. One person joked, “They literally call changing clothes costume [or] changes all the time lmao. But f–k it, clock Becky just because. We won’t stop you.”

Another said, “She took the comment wrong that’s why the reporter is laughing. The phrase doesn’t mean a literal ‘costume’ change.”
