Gospel singer and pastor Kim Burrell stopped by “The Tamron Hall Show” Thursday, Sept. 29 and the two ladies re-visited Burrell’s viral sermon in 2016, where she skeptically spoke on the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a sermon that caused her to lose brand deals, get shunned by celebs and be uninvited to award shows.

Hall urged Burrell to express her feelings on that time in which the “Thank You Jesus” singer not only spoke on her controversial opinion, but also discussed unwitnessed drama concerning her and popular gospel singer Yolanda Adams, a person she’d considered to be a friend.

“I feel the same way I felt that night, my intentions were pure,” said the Houston, Texas native.

While noting her unchanged opinion, Burrell began to switch gears and bring up feelings of disappointment she had for the “Open My Heart” singer.

“We’ve all shared the same same stage and backgrounds, back rooms and green rooms and some of their public display in conversation is somewhat opposite of what it is behind stage.”

Burrell added she would have preferred that Adams, who is from the same city as her, to “pick up a cell phone and say ‘Hey, I have a career to save, and I can’t agree with your stance right now. I need to say something different to my public.’ ”

No more than a second after Burrell finished her statement, Hall quickly recognized Adams as a friend of hers also who was not appearing as a guest on her show during the same time as Burrell. Hall also redirected to her initial question.

“Yolanda is a friend of mine as well. I am also from Texas and I did not want to turn this into a- ‘cause I don’t know what happened behind the scenes.’ ”

Hall continued to reiterate her question, “What I was asking if you wanted more time for … you said there was more of a backstory on what you said on the pulpit not the interpersonal relationships of two people that, you’re now here with me and another person I care about.”

Burrell and Hall’s conversation transformed into a one-minute clip that made its way around social media where fans reacted to Hall defending her friend.

“Tamron Hall basically told Kim Burrell to watch her mouth, and I am here for it!”

“I’m glad Tamron Hall checked her with class when she tried to lowkey drag Yolanda Adams on national tv”

Kim Burrell is the literal definition of the “nasty church mothers” people speak about. I’m glad Tamron Hall checked her with class when she tried to lowkey drag Yolanda Adams on national tv.

“Yoo Tamron Hall told Kim Burrell Yolanda Adams is my friend too, and I’m also from Texas and what you won’t do is sit here and talk about her on MY show. I’m screaming. Kim can’t win lol.”

Burrell recently made headlines again after a sermon where she called churchgoers “broke” and “ugly” went viral on social media.

Comedian Steve Harvey came to Burrell’s defense after her sermon faced backlash. While Burrell has since apologized for her remarks, many still believe Burrell to be insensitive and mean spirited.

“Kim Burrell is so messy and mean and she singing for the Lord. I know being a gospel singer or even being a believer doesn’t mean you’re a good person, but it’s just so ugly to watch. That lady is too old to be on that.”
