‘Some Things Are Hard to Forget’: Bobby Brown Reveals a Priest ‘Tried to Touch’ Him Inappropriately When He Was Younger
Bobby Brown is uncovering deep-rooted traumas in his forthcoming docuseries “Biography: Bobby Brown.”
Among them is the newly revealed bombshell of the R&B singer being molested as a child. Brown, for the first time, opens up about the traumatic experience in the two-part look into the losses and triumphs he has endured in both his personal life and career.
Brown says the ordeal began after his mother, Carole Brown, was arrested while attempting to break up a street fight. His father, Herbert Brown, was at work at the time, leaving authorities to find a place of supervision for Brown.
“When my mother was arrested I was sent to temporary custody by social services, which was supposed to be a religious place,” he says in the docuseries which airs on A&E network May 30 to 31. “It was not a nice place to be as a child. One of the priests tried to molest me.”
The singer says he had no intentions of recounting the incident, and was taken aback that he was divulging that part of his life. “Wow I didn’t think we was going to talk about that,” he said to an off-camera producer for the docuseries. He continued by explaining exactly what transpired between him and the priest.
“He tried to touch my private parts. There was no penetration or anything.” The singer says his fight-or-flight response kicked in, helping him to escape the situation before anything else had the potential to take place. “He touched my privates and I didn’t like that. I punched and kicked and punched some more until he got away from me; so I ran away from there as quickly as possible.”
The “My Prerogative” singer goes on to say that incident has stuck with him throughout his life, as one of the many traumas that have occurred in his 53 years. “At that time I was a young boy I didn’t know what sexual boundaries were. I just knew I didn’t like being touched. Some things are hard to forget.”
The ”New Edition” group member will also touch on the losses of his ex-wife Whitney Houston and two of his children, Bobby Brown Jr. and daughter Bobbi Kristina.
Even though much of Brown’s story has played out in the public eye, fans are clamoring to hear and see what else the “Bad Boy of R&B” has to share.
“I’m definitely hyped this bio special because it gives everyone a chance to see you in a different light. Keep up the good work Bobby (living legend),” commented a fan when Brown shared the docuseries trailer to social.
“I’m glad you are here to tell this story.”
“Oh I can’t wait!! Just more reasons to absolutely love him! His truth and vulnerability is [fire emoji].”
