Second lady Usha Vance is surprised at how well her family is adjusting to their newest addition.
Vice President JD Vance and his wife welcomed their newborn son, Alec, on July 19.
The couple is also parents to sons Ewan, 9, and Vivek, 6, and daughter Mirabel, 4. Usha announced her pregnancy in late January.
Alec is the third Donald Trump administration baby, the first being White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt and her husband Nicholas Riccio’s daughter, Vivian, who was born in May.
The second was Hawthorne Hayes Miller, who was born on June 3 and is the fourth child of deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller and his wife Katie Miller.
Trump shared the first photo of his VP’s youngest son on Truth Social. The family of six later celebrated Alec’s debut with an official photo shoot at home.
The Vances’ growing brood also marks a unique moment in history.
Their little one is the first child born to a sitting vice president in 150 years, the last being President Ulysses S. Grant’s second-in-command, Schuyler Colfax.
In her first postpartum interview, Usha told Fox News Digital, “It’s been really lovely so far,” noting that Alec’s excited siblings are finding ways to be involved in his life. “They’re willing to burp him, they want to grab things for him, they want to entertain him.”
“I would say I had all sorts of angst about this. My family felt so complete. My kids were growing into a new phase,” the Yale University alumna.

Moreover, she expressed, “I’m really glad that we took this plunge. I’m really glad that we decided to move into the unknown and do something that felt like a little bit of a risk to a settled and happy family dynamic because it’s only become happier.”

JD told Laura Ingraham in an Aug. 5 interview that Trump called him the day of Alec’s birth, suggesting he take time off, meaning that day. The VP met with the president the next day and has appeared at multiple meetings.
“I tell everybody having a kid is never easy. There’s never a perfect time to do it. There are always financial, work, and other considerations, but I’ve never once thought to myself, ‘I regret having that baby.’ So we’ve got four now, and it’s an amazing blessing,” he told Ingraham during their chat.

Last year, JD and Erika Kirk, the widow of right-wing activist Charlie Kirk, shared a handsy hug on stage at a Turning Point USA event.
Erika grabbed the back of his head, pulling the VP in close. His hands rested on her hips. Onlookers perceived the PDA display as something more than platonic, even fueling speculation of an affair and divorce rumors.
Usha’s pregnancy was announced amid the outrage, and Erika denied the salacious misinterpretations of the hug.
