NBA YoungBoy says he kept touring after doctor told him one side of his heart was swollen
The 26-year-old rapper says the issue persists as he considers stepping away from music after one or two more albums.
NBA YoungBoy says he kept performing despite being told by a doctor that the left side of his heart was swollen. During a rare appearance on Funny Marco’s “Open Thoughts,” YoungBoy said the issue was discovered while he was on tour.
“On tour, a doctor told me the left side of my heart was swollen and I never told nobody,” he said. “I just kept doing every show. I finished my tour out like that.”
Complex reported that the 26-year-old rapper said the issue has not fully gone away. YoungBoy told Funny Marco that his heart is “kind of still” enlarged on one side, though he did not identify a diagnosis, explain what caused it or say whether he is receiving treatment.
He also connected the revelation to the emotion in his music, joking that his heart being hurt might explain what listeners hear in his songs.
The conversation then shifted to his future in music. YoungBoy said music is not his main focus right now and suggested that his recording career may be nearing its end.
Asked how many albums he believes he has left, he answered, “One or two.” He was even more definite about touring, saying he plans to go on the road only one more time in his life.
The comments stand out given YoungBoy’s unusually prolific career. Despite being only 26, he has released nine studio albums and dozens of mixtapes, with four albums reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200. His latest studio album, “Slime Cry,” arrived in January and peaked at No. 6, while the “ML2” compilation followed in June.
YoungBoy’s latest comments do not amount to a formal retirement announcement. But the NBA YoungBoy heart health disclosure, combined with his comments about having only one or two albums and one tour left, suggests that health and life outside music are taking on greater importance for him.
