Damon Wayans said that he would do a comedy-style “Verzuz” with comedian Dave Chappelle. The comedian challenged Chappelle when he appeared on the morning radio show 97.9 The Box in Houston, Texas, on Friday, Aug. 13.

Wayans was not familiar with “Verzuz,” and the The Box hosts filled him in and asked who he would battle if he were to do a comedy-style “Verzuz.”

“Do they do comedians?” asked Wayans.

One of the hosts said that they should, and another asked Wayans who he would go up against.

“Chappelle,” he said. “I’m calling him out!”

Chappelle had the hit show “Chapelle’s Show” that aired on Comedy Central from 2003 to 2006. The show included segments with Charlie Murphy telling stories through “Charlie Murphy’s True Hollywood Stories” about the experiences he had meeting celebrities while with his famous brother, comedian Eddie Murphy. He and Chappelle reenacted the stories in hilarious sketches that many fans rave about to this day.

Wayans changed television along with his brother Keenan Ivory Wayans with his ground-breaking and hilarious sketch-comedy show “In Living Color.” The show with a mostly Black cast was one of the most popular shows on television in the 1990s. It also launched the careers of several of Wayans’ siblings, as well as Jennifer Lopez, Jim Carrey, David Alan Grier, Tommy Lee Davison and Jamie Foxx.

In 2001, Wayans created his own show “My Wife and Kids” which was a family sitcom that lasted five seasons.

Fans on social media seemed to like the idea of a Wayans and Chappelle “Verzuz” battle.

“Damon Wayans has officially called out @DaveChappelle for a comedic Verzuz. I would loveeee to see it. I love comedy in general so the thought of it in verzuz form would be dope af. #VERZUZ.”

Another said, “A comedy #VERZUZ would b crazy. Dave Chapelle Vs Damon Wayans.”

While fans are all for it, as of yet, there is no official word on a “Verzuz” between Wayans and Chappelle.
