‘I Wasn’t There’: Bobby Brown Shares That His Ex-Wife Whitney Houston Would Still Be Alive If the Pair Never Divorced
For the past few weeks, Bobby Brown has made headlines for two of his upcoming A&E projects. The list includes a two-part documentary titled “Biography: Bobby Brown” and his new reality show “Bobby Brown: Every Little Step.”
Both series are set to premiere at the end of May. In the documentary, Brown opens up about his rise to fame and the traumatic experiences he faced as a child, including a priest trying to touch him inappropriately.

Brown’s admission doesn’t stop there. The 53-year-old also disclosed the biggest regret involving his ex-wife Whitney Houston. In a teaser shared to the Daily Mail, Brown expressed that Houston would still be alive if they never divorced and the pair fought their drug addictions together.
Houston passed away on Feb. 11, 2012, after the singer was found unresponsive in a bathtub at the Beverly Hills Hotel. Houston’s cause of death was ultimately determined as an accidental drowning with the contributing factors of heart disease and cocaine.
In the clip, Brown said as he visited Houston and his daughter Bobbi Kristina Brown’s grave for the first time at Fairview Cemetery in New Jersey, “I think we could have helped each other out. … I think she would still be there if we hadn’t divorced.”
He added, “I wasn’t there. I beat myself about it because I wasn’t there. I wish I could have been there for her. “
Brown and Houston, who met in 1989 at the Soul Train Music Awards, were categorized as the most unlikely Hollywood pairing when they began dating in the early 1990s. The reason stemmed from Brown’s bad-boy persona and Houston’s good-girl image.
Despite the flak from the public, Brown, and Houston got married in 1992. The pair later welcomed their only child Bobbi Kristina Brown in March 1993. Throughout their 14-year marriage, it was rumored that Houston and Brown’s relationship was filled with infidelity and physical abuse along with heavy drug use.
Houston filed for divorce in 2006, and it was officially finalized a year later.
