Fulton County prosecutors have filed a motion to revoke the probation of rapper Young Thug, whose real name is Jeffrey Williams, citing recent actions that allegedly endanger witnesses and disrupt ongoing legal proceedings. The motion, which was obtained by Channel 2 Action News, highlights concerns about the safety of law enforcement and individuals involved in his prosecution.

According to the document, Williams’ conduct since his sentencing has posed a significant risk, especially after a social media post that targeted Investigator Marissa Viverito, who is currently testifying in a gang murder trial. The post, made by a blogger, included a photo of the investigator despite a judge’s order to keep her image off TV. The post was then reposted by Young Thug, and it quickly went viral, attracting over 2 million views.

The motion emphasizes that the public sharing of Viverito’s home and parents’ addresses, along with subsequent posts threatening the assassination of District Attorney Fani Willis, shows a clear pattern of witness intimidation. Prosecutors argue that Williams’ involvement with individuals actively engaging in these actions violates the conditions of his probation, which include maintaining law-abiding behavior.

Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis expressed her concern, stating, “What our motion is concerned about is that we certainly believe that his post was to threaten law enforcement, which is all part of gang activity.” She added that Williams’ continued association with those linked to such acts could result in immediate action to revoke his probation.

Young Thug’s attorney, Brian Steel, responded by condemning the allegations, calling them “irresponsible.” Steel stated, “It is never appropriate to threaten to murder another person,” and argued that the motion to revoke probation should be rejected, claiming that Williams had done nothing to warrant such a filing.

The motion also refers to the complex nature of Williams’ sentence. In 2022, a plea deal resulted in a five-year sentence commuted to time served, followed by 15 years of probation. This would be followed by a 20-year prison term, which could also be commuted to time served if Williams successfully completes the probation, which is laden with strict conditions.

The YSL case, initially an indictment involving 28 people, charges Williams and others with conspiring to violate Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations Act. Last December, Young Thug entered a non-negotiated plea. Prior to the trial, nine other defendants, including rapper Gunna, took plea deals. The trial itself has been a lengthy process, marked by extensive jury selection that lasted 10 months before testimony began in November 2023.
