Erica Campbell Speaks Out Against Plastic Surgery In Instagram Post: ‘Surgery Won’t Give You What You’re Looking For’
Opinionated gospel singer Erica Campbell fired off another direct missive to inspire her followers on Instagram recently. In the Feb. 7 post she tackled the topic of plastic surgery, urging her readers to shun plastic surgery in lieu of just loving themselves.
“Hey! You don’t need the surgery! You’re fine how you are, embrace yourself LOVE YOURSELF as you are. Surgery isn’t bad but WHY DO YOU REALLY NEED IT?! YOU’RE BEAUTIFUL! Stop comparing yourself to others!! You are fearfully and wonderfully made. Psalms 139.”
Campbell’s caption clarified that she is not including necessary medical procedures in her screed against surgery, noting that she doesn’t pass judgment, and only tries to encourage others to accept who they are.
“This is for you reconsider why you’re doing it. Love you. God loves you more. BTW just my thoughts no judgment at all!! Know that self acceptance is Everything!”
“I’m not talking about necessary surgery because of scars or other things, I’m talking about vanity and comparison being your reason! Surgery won’t give you what you’re looking for. Make sure you’re taking good care of your heart mind and soul. What you think of you is important.”
“If you have done the hard work and this is your final step to the body you desire, that’s different, I say go for it! But don’t do it because everyone’s doing it!” she added.
Campbell has courted more controversial topics before, which, in a bid to be transparent about her thoughts and beliefs, were not always received very warmly.
In January, she posted an Instagram message warning pastors to reconsider clicking “like” on photos of attractive women in bikinis.
“Hey, preachers and pastors!” Campbell wrote. “You should re-think liking the pictures of ladies in sexy bikinis, especially when you’re married.” She added, “Even when the caption is deep and spiritual! You shouldn’t double tap! IJS.”
Last November, the gospel singer took to Instagram with a provocative post about infidelity and marriage.
“You can’t sow Hoe seeds and reap marriage benefits. Your brain and body don’t switch like that. You gotta prepare you mind for marriage because it’s ministry.”
Her comment caused so much debate on social media that she had to address her message on “The Morning Hustle” radio show to clarify her message, particularly for those who were originally offended.
“I said you can’t sow hoe seed and think you’re going to reap marriage benefits. And what I meant by that is monogamy must be practiced,” she explained. “It’s not something that happens automatically. If you’re in the practice of sleeping around, doing whatever — and I’m coming from a believer’s perspective because that’s what I am.”
She asserted, “I know there’s a benefit in being with one person. That was God’s design for our life. I know that a lot of people, dealing with broken hearts, they’ll say, ‘Fine, I don’t care. I’ma do what I want.’ And you can. But the benefits of marriage are beautiful, beautiful, beautiful.”
