Cynthia Bailey Opens Up In New Interview About Being Called ‘Auntie’ on ‘RHOA’
Cynthia Bailey openly discussed what it felt like to be the “auntie” among her “Real Housewives of Atlanta” peers during an interview with Page Six published on Feb. 14.
Bailey, who was promoting her partnership with Seagram’s Escapes, jokingly admitted it wasn’t the “worst thing” in the world. “Let’s just say being called an auntie is not maybe the worst thing ever in this group.”
She added, “What I will say is the nieces are probably gonna do some things that I probably would not do. So I’ll just leave that right there. And if I am an auntie, please believe, I’m probably the fly auntie that comes to the barbecue who everyone’s looking for, you know what I’m saying?”
The reality star didn’t see the “auntie” remark — made by cast mate Shamea Morton — as a diss to her age, because she is “proud” to be representing the 50s age group. She said, “So if I’m an auntie, I’m the old fun auntie.”
The initial comment occurred during Drew Sidora and Latoya Ali’s argument after the “Step Up” actress said the YouTube influencer didn’t care about “husbands.” Tensions arose moments before when Ali asked Falynn Guobadia why she decided to bring her husband along during an all-girls trip to South Carolina.
Following the “auntie” remarks, Bailey tried to answer the gibe on the episode of “RHOA” that aired on Feb. 14 by wearing form-fitting clothes. But the 53-year-old failed after her aunt-like qualities came out when she started packing pork leftovers in a Ziploc bag for her then-fiancé, sportscaster Mike Hill, and her mother. Bailey’s co-star Porsha Williams called the mother of one out while hysterically laughing.
She said, “I know damn well Auntie Cynthia is not packing a doggy bag for Mike.”
Williams added, “How you gonna be dressed like a niece, acting like an auntie packing up some food. Girl, we all the way out of town, you cannot be packing up for your man while we out of town. That is so auntie.”
New episodes of “Real Housewives of Atlanta” air on Sundays at 8 p.m.
