‘Correction’: Ice Cube Backtracks Comments About NFTs After Previously Slamming Them
Non-fungible tokens, better known as NFTs, have become the latest obsession in the digital space. Several celebrities have already begun flirting with the new art craze, including Snoop Dogg, Shaq and Ja Rule. However, not everyone is on board with the latest trend, including Kanye West, who recently called out the new blockchain market. Meanwhile, it appears that some stars are unsure how they feel.
Rapper turned actor Ice Cube recently caused a bit of confusion on social media after appearing to claim that he “hated” NFTs. The comment came after the “Friday” creator and star responded to an online user who shared a collage of images of him and several other emcees, including Snoop, Eminem, and the late Notorious B.I.G., dressed in centuries-old attire and styled as old paintigs.

The Twitter user wrote that they “found this dope pic on my old phone and my first thought was ‘I wish this was a NFT collection.’” Elsewhere they noted, “10/10 would mine.” However, the “It Was a Good Day” rapper seemed to disagree after replying to the person, “No thank you.” He added, “I actually hate this fake a– sh-t. Making me apart of their bullsh-t is insulting. Leave me out.”
The exchange soon found its way on several blog sites and media outlets, triggering another response from the 52-year-old star. “Correction: I love NFTs but I hate that fake a– picture of me in that old uniform,” he wrote this time along with a copy of an article stating otherwise.
While some critics called the legendary rapper out for walking back his comments, many fans ran to his defense, including one Twitter user who wrote, “Read his tweet from this morning. He CLEARLY meant the old time wardrobe him, Snoop, Em, and whoever the 4th rapper was were wearing,” They added, “He never gave the impression he was against NFTs.”
And although Cube might not have liked his appearance in the vintage attire, one fan let him know, “You still looks nice.”
“NFT is the next,” encouraged another critic. “You have say over your likeness that is being used. Puts you in control. Take advantage Cube Take advantage (in my Smokey voice).”
It’s unclear whether Cube will join the growing community of NFT producers, as the star has yet to confirm working on any projects in that arena.
