Angela Bassett is returning to the ‘American Horror Story’ universe as Ryan Murphy brings together a lineup of the anthology’s most recognizable stars and characters for Season 13. The new season is being positioned as a “greatest hits” installment, with Bassett among several familiar faces returning to the franchise.
Season 13 brings together an extensive group of AHS veterans, including Jessica Lange, Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters and Emma Roberts. Several of the returning performers will revisit characters they previously played, turning the new ‘American Horror Story’ season into an unusually large reunion of the anthology’s past.
According to The Jasmine Brand, Murphy has described the season as a “greatest hits” installment, but he has pushed back against the idea that the new season is simply a Coven reboot.
“I didn’t want to just do a ‘Coven’ reboot,” Murphy told Vogue, explaining that he wanted to bring together the show’s biggest villains and classic characters while creating a new story around them. The returning cast includes Sarah Paulson as Cordelia Goode, Jessica Lange as Constance Langdon, Evan Peters as Kai Anderson and John Carroll Lynch as Twisty the Clown, among other familiar faces.
For Bassett, the return is particularly significant because Marie Laveau remains one of the characters most closely associated with her ‘American Horror Story’ legacy. The new installment will consist of 13 half-hour episodes, with the season premiering Sept. 24 on FX and Hulu.
