‘Soft Launch Into the Streets’: Naomi Osaka’s Cryptic ‘Sunset’ Post Has Fans Convinced She Split from Rapper Cordae
Tennis champion Naomi Osaka just turned the internet upside down after tweeting a simple wish. Ordinarily, a young lady wishing for a life partner wouldn’t be a big thing. But the four-time Grand Slam singles champion is not just any young lady.
Osaka has been romantically linked to rapper Cordae for approximately four years, bearing him a daughter only three months ago.
Trending Today:
“I just want someone that will watch the sunset with me,” the 26-year-old athlete tweeted on Tuesday, Oct. 17.
Immediately, fans swarmed in with the reply, asking if the tweet was a “Soft launch into the streets?” Another noticed the pair no longer follow each other on social media.
One person said, screw soft launch, her tweet was a flat-out “hard launch,” and another said “That’s what it sounds like” to them. A third added, “Stop speculating. Have Will and Jada not taught you anything?”
Fans had previously warned Osaka not to fall for Cordae, telling her to focus on the craft that once made her one of Time magazine’s most influential people. However, she didn’t. Instead, she began to date the “Careful” rapper and post him on her social media — doting on what a wonderful boyfriend he is.
In one post in 2021, months after securing a win over Belarusian player Victoria Azárenka at the U.S. Open final, the 26-year-old posted on her Instagram an “appreciation post” thanking him for jumping on a plane to surprise her because she was feeling lonely.
She captioned the post, “He stopped everything he was doing because I FaceTimed him a couple days earlier and said I was feeling sad and lonely in the bubble.”
“I later found out that he hopped on a plane shortly after that call and then quarantined himself for a couple days in a hotel to see me and support,” she continued. “The funniest part is even after doing all this I’m still convinced he doesn’t understand the rules of tennis lol.”
Another thing that is fueling the breakup rumors is that Osaka no longer follows the North Carolina native on Instagram. She has scrubbed her Instagram of any mention of the “Doomsday” emcee, and in an Oct. 16 birthday post, dropped days before, she can be seen standing in a tropical setting by herself.
Only a few months prior, in July, Osaka and Cordae became parents to their first child, a daughter named Shai.
During an appearance at the US Open in September, Osaka shared why they chose that name for the baby.
“Shai means God’s gift. I wanted her to feel like she was a gift to me and her dad,” she said to ESPN.
While many are wondering if the two are still a couple, they are keeping their relationship status close to the vest. Neither has said one way or another about the breakup speculations, perhaps focusing on being new parents.
