‘You’re Cheapening Our Relationship’: LisaRaye and Vivica A. Fox Debate Men Offering Expensive Gifts Instead of Making Real Investments Into Their Relationships
LisaRaye McCoy’s love is not up for purchase, but she is still open to accepting nice gifts from a male suitor. The “All of Us” actress recently delved into a conversation with her “Cocktails With Queens” co-hosts, where the topic of gifts being used as a means to buy a woman’s affection was up for debate.
The hot topic was inspired by another famous face, Keri Hilson. The “Make Love” singer tweeted, “Often, the cheapest thing a man can offer is an expensive gift.” McCoy said that she absolutely agreed with Hilson’s sentiments.
“If you are just trying to buy me with all this expensive stuff, you’re not getting to the core of who I am, so that means you’re cheapening our relationship and it’s delusion. It’s nothing but fluff,” she said. She continued by explaining that a man overdoing it with lavish, indulgent gifts can make the process of genuinely getting to know someone a more convoluted experience.
“And then it’s like, I don’t want fluff. I thought we were talking and getting engaged in each other because we were invested in the longevity of where the relationship could go. If you fill it with fluff and fluff, it’s like, ‘Well, how do you really feel about me? Are you just buying me things that you can?’ Which means what to you if it’s nothing but a dime out of your pocket when you have several dimes?” further explained the “Players Club” actress.
Her friend and co-host Vivica A. Fox enthusiastically weighed in on the topic. “Well, I’m just the opposite. I’ll take a little fluff in my life; are you kidding me?” said Fox as McCoy interjected to clarify that she too likes to be showered with gifts.
“Let me tell you something. I’m ready for somebody to show up and say, ‘Yes, I’ve got the jet for you. Come meet me…’ I want a whole ‘Pretty Woman’ episode where he comes in with the diamonds and hits my hand. Just for one good ‘ol week. I’ll take some fluff,” added the “Set It Off” star.
When it comes to dating, neither of the women is a novice. Both have been married before; Fox tied the knot with singer Christopher “Sixx-Nine” Harvest in 1998, but divorced in 2002; McCoy married former prime minister of Turks and Caicos Michael Misick in 2006, but divorced in 2009.
