Martin Lawrence Reveals He and Jamie Foxx Almost Had a Film Together Playing ‘Sheneneh’ and ‘Wanda’ Characters
Martin Lawrence is still basking in the love he has received from his “Martin” television special, which debuted on BET+ last week.
The entire cast, including Lawrence, Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold and Carl Anthony Payne II, commemorated the show’s 30th anniversary by reuniting on the original set, and discussed the “Martin” show’s impact on the entertainment industry, among other things.

While promoting the reunion special on June 28 during his appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon,” Lawrence disclosed that Sheneneh Jenkins — one of the many characters he played on the hit sitcom — was supposed to have a film with Wanda Wayne. In the sketch comedy series “In Living Color,” Wanda Wayne was a character Jamie Foxx portrayed.
Lawrence’s admission came after Fallon asked the comedian if he would participate in a “Martin” reboot. Lawrence explained that although he wouldn’t mind working with the cast again on another project, he doesn’t think a reboot would recapture the essence of the 1992 show.
The 57-year-old said, “I think, well, you know, the ‘Martin’ show was like catching lightning in a bottle, and I don’t think we can redo that again. I wouldn’t mind working with the cast again on something, but I don’t think we can do that again.”
Further in the discussion, Lawrence brought up that he would love to see a film with his Sheneneh character despite objecting to a reboot.
He said, “I would love to see a movie with Sheneneh. We were supposed to do a movie with Sheneneh and Jamie Foxx with Wanda, but that never came about.” Lawrence added, “If we could ever get that together, I think y’all would love this.” Although Lawrence revealed those elements about the potential project with Foxx, the “Bad Boys” star didn’t disclose why that film never worked out.
Rumors about a Sheneneh and Wanda film started in the late 2000s. Foxx shared in a 2010 interview with HipHollywood that the movie was officially written.
He said, “The Wanda and Sheneneh movie is officially written. We will officially start in the next couple of months. When I tell you look out, Martin Lawrence is back like you will not believe. So get ready.”
