Rihanna and Fans Dismiss Kentucky AG Daniel Cameron’s Attempt at Acknowledging Black History Month After Failing to Secure Justice for Breonna Taylor
Beauty mogul Rihanna is kicking off the start of Black History Month by again calling out Kentucky Attorney General Daniel Cameron.
Cameron, who would be hard-pressed to find Black supporters after the handling of the Breonna Taylor case, thought he was doing a decent deed by publicly acknowledging the month with a video message posted to Twitter.
“Today marks the first day of Black History Month. For the next 27 days we take time to remember and celebrate the contributions of Black Americans have made to our nation. And the road hasn’t always been easy, but over the course of our country’s history there are countless examples of Black men and women whose talents, contributions, and determination have altered the fabric of our nation and put us on a path of building a more perfect union. I know that I would not be here in this office serving as the first Black attorney general of the commonwealth, and the first Black Kentuckian independently elected to statewide office if not for the giants whose shoulders I stand upon. So, today and for the entire month of February take time to learn about the countless contribution of Black Americans who have made the commonwealth and this country what it is today. Thank you and God bless.”
Rihanna caught wind of the tweet and responded, “Sup nigga? #JusticeforBreonna Taylor”
Taylor was fatally shot March 13, 2020, during a botched drug raid at her apartment. The slaying of the 26-year-old Black woman enraged people across the country and from every walk of life. Celebrities, including Rihanna, attempted to elevate the calls for justice in the case when a grand jury returned a single indictment unrelated to Taylor’s slaying for one of the three officers who fired shots into the apartment.
Cameron responded to the backlash and onslaught of media attention by telling the public to disregard what celebrities had to say about the case.
“There will be celebrities, influencers, and activists who having never lived in Kentucky would try to tell us how to feel suggesting they understand the facts of this case and that they know our community and the commonwealth better than we do. But they don’t. Let’s not give into their attempts to influence our thinking or capture our emotions,” said Cameron at the time.
And while the case may be closed in Cameron’s book, the Black community has continued to say Taylor’s name in hopes of one day achieving justice. But in the meantime, people on social are more than happy to see Rihanna’s target once again aimed at Cameron.
“GET HIM,” wrote several people on Twitter.
“The only contribution he made is not having justice for Breonna Taylor”
“Drag the phuck outta them Rih. We’re always with you #JusticeforBreonnaTaylor”
“This guy should never ever mention Black History ever again, Truth B Told”
