‘Who Is 82?’: Kandi Burrus’ Mom and Aunts of ‘OLG’ Show Off ‘Meg Knees,’ Leaving Fans In Stitches
Singer-turned-reality star Kandi Burruss is in full swing promoting her new show on Bravo, “Kandi and The Gang,” the spinoff from her original “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” show. The trailer is all over social media, and the commercials promoting the debut of this series seem to be nonstop on the NBCUniversal network.
At the core of the show are the Old Lady Gang and the eponymous soul food restaurant that she created for her mother, Mama Joyce, and her two aunts Bertha and Nora.
The actual OLG menu is straight from the singer’s family’s kitchens, featuring appetizers like fried green tomatoes, Mama Sharon’s seared crab cake, and deep-fried whipped deviled eggs; entrees like Riley’s shrimp and grits and Kandi’s honey-glazed blackened salmon and Aunt Bertha’s fried chicken; and desserts like Kandi’s peach cobbler bread pudding. And while the food is getting a four out of five rating on OpenTable, the characters that have inspired the Southern eatery max out with five-star personalities.
Kandi knows it, and that is why she has included them as secondary storylines on “The Real Housewives of Atlanta” and “Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta.” It is also why she posted them on her Instagram acting out.
All week, the Grammy-winning songwriter has been posting videos of the three older women doing #BeyonceDropChallenge, aka the good knees challenge, that has been the craze on TikTok.
The first one showcased her and her mom dressed in yellow getting their squat on.
The second video let Aunt Bertha get the spotlight with her version of the social media must-do. She wrote, “#AuntBertha trying to give my mom & I a run for our money with this #beyoncedropchallenge .”
In the third one, she rounded the series off with the entire OLG. She captioned it, “My #AuntNora said she still has good knees at 82! .”
Fans could not believe how flexible and agile the women were.
One commented, “They doin better den me .”
Another questioned, “82!!?”
“Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta” cast member Rasheeda Frost, one of Burruss’ good friends, was one of the first to hop in the comments, posting laughing emojis.
With a millennial “Period aunties!” rapper Jessie Woo celebrated the women who are old enough to be her grannies.
Reality star Deelishis commented twice, ultimately writing, “It’s the swag for me .”
But no one was more on point than Burruss’ Xscape group mate, Tameka “Tiny” Harris. Under her IG moniker @majorgirl, she hit the nail on the head, saying, “They a whole movie by themselves.”
Kandi’s new Bravo spinoff series premieres on March 6.
