Rapper T-Pain wants everyone to take a different approach when observing Black History Month. During a recent run-in with reporters, the “Buy U a Drank” rapper aired out some of his frustration about the treatment of Black people as BHM begins and just days after several Historical Black Colleges and Universities received bomb threats

While talking to reporters from TMZ at the Los Angeles International Airport, the producer, whose real name is Faheem Rasheed Najm, said he wanted people to “stop celebrating” BHM. “Although we celebrate Black History Month, I think we should just have history. They overshot it. We don’t want our own sh-t, you’re separating us again. We want to be part of history and not just one month of it,” he added.

“Like we want to be part of history, don’t celebrate one month for us. I’d rather everybody stop celebrating that sh-t and just let us be part of history and not just, ‘Y’all get paid attention to on the shortest month of the year.’”

When asked for his thoughts on the recent threats to a dozen schools, including  Howard University, Norfolk State University, and the nation’s only historically Black and Catholic university, Xavier University of Louisiana, and plenty more have all received, the entertainer said it’s proof not much has changed over the years.

“It’s always been f-cked up; it’s been f-cked up for hella years,” the 37-year-old said. “We take it how we’ve been taking it. We going to make changes, look towards the future and stop looking at the past and we’ll make a change.”

The “Bartender” musician found much support from observers on social media, including one person who admitted they wanted to post something similar but feared receiving online backlash. “It’s really crazy how I saved a tweet in my drafts yesterday exactly what TPain said about black history month,” they wrote. “I thought I was gone get dragged lol that’s why I didn’t post but fr.”

Another person commented, “I definitely been saying that sh-t about black history month. I feel TPain. Stop celebrating that sh-t for the month , celebrate that sh-t all the time! Naming February BHM is the same as writing BLM in a f-ckin street . Ain’t nobody excited about the bare minimum.”

“What T pain said was hella correct. Black History month is hella condescending and kinda shows we aren’t worth knowing about all year even though we built this sh-t, ” a third person remarked. “So is National Hispanic Heritage month, especially since New Mexico is old Mexico….”
