Report: President Donald Trump Expected to Pardon Lil Wayne on His Final Day in Office
Earlier this month, word began to spread that Lil Wayne was among a pool of people in line to possibly receive a pardon from President Donald Trump during his last days in office. New reports now indicate that Lil Wayne’s chances of receiving that offer from Trump are more than likely.
On Monday, Jan. 18, ABC News reported that the “Misunderstood” rapper, whose real name is Dwayne Michael Carter Jr., is expected to be on the list of Trump’s final round of pardons.
A meeting reportedly was held on Sunday, Jan. 17, to confirm Trump’s new list, which is expected to contain somewhere between 50 to 100 people. The final list could be announced as early as Tuesday or, at the latest, Wednesday morning before president-elect Joe Biden’s inauguration, according to a source that the outlet did not disclose.
Trump reportedly isn’t planning to pardon him or any member of his family. He isn’t planning on giving a pardon to his personal lawyer and former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani. However, he may lend a helping hand to those who have shown their loyalty to him in the past, including the New Orleans rapper.
Lil Wayne pleaded guilty in December 2020 to illegally possessing a loaded, gold-plated.45-caliber handgun while traveling on a private jet to South Florida a year before. While onboard, authorities found the gun along with cocaine, ecstasy, marijuana, heroin, painkillers, prescription-strength cough syrup, and $26,000 in cash. The 38-year-old was not charged with any drug offenses. If convicted, the “Mona Lisa” rapper could face up to 10 years in prison unless he is granted a pardon. The star’s hearing is set for Thursday, Jan. 28, in Miami.
As previously reported, Wayne infamously met with the president back on Oct. 29 to discuss the “Platinum Plan.” The $500 billion initiative was supposed to help the Black community by creating three million new jobs and push for criminal justice reform, among other things.
Following their conference, the pair took a photo together, for which fans on social media instantly slammed Wayne. As of late, the public, let alone the Black community has yet to see what has become of the program.
