‘I Am Bullying Because I Just Told the Truth’: Tiffany Haddish Addresses Claims of Bullying and Spreading COVID-19 Conspiracy Theories on Clubhouse App
Throughout the pandemic, the coronavirus has made the world change its perspective on who could be affected by it and how it could be transmitted. It also has opened doors for some people to make their own assumptions of the deadly contagion, which has often led to the spread of misinformation online.
Recently Tiffany Haddish was accused of peddling COVID-19 conspiracy theories on the newest social media app Clubhouse. Social media users on Twitter also faulted the “Night School” star, along with celebrity blogger Jason Lee and Pan-Africanist Chakabars Clarke for even bullying a medical professional who opposed their views.
Clubhouse users claimed that the three talked about the coronavirus, alleging that it was government-created to help with facial recognition. They later contended that when a doctor spoke about the pandemic, the person reportedly was harassed by other online users and allegedly attempted to commit suicide.
Haddish responded to those reports in series of tweets, seemingly not apologizing for the remarks she was being accused of, saying, “Now People on clubhouse saying I am bullying because I just told the truth.”
She later followed up that tweet, writing, “Funny how some people can’t handle the truth!” she added, “There is a special place in Gods Kingdom for people that like to lie and make up stories on other people.”
When folks blasted the actress for not coming to the aid of the young woman complaining about receiving death threats for opposing Haddish’s comments, the “Girls Trips” star defended Chakabars instead, claiming that the doctor “told nothing but lies against a Black man.” She added, “Smh I don’t need your respect. I just wish people would tell truth. I just told her the truth she has the man name everywhere.”
Another Twitter user spoke on the matter, saying, “Tiffany Haddish is really in a room surrounded by white people discussing bullying just after bully and attempting dox a black woman.” She added, “What a cow #chbullying.”
The 41-year-old pushed back at the critique, questioning what part of her statement was deemed bullying. “How did I bully please tell me?” Haddish asked, “I was just trying to tell the lady why she was going thru what she was going thru. She is totally breaking clubhouse rules.”
Many have since called on the creators of Clubhouse to suspend the accounts of the celebrities. “TW. As a result of the incessant bullying and vicous targeting by @TiffanyHaddish @chakabars and Jason Lee, a woman attempted suicide last night.” someone wrote. “I am calling on @joinClubhouse to do the right thing in suspending them permanently. This is unacceptable.”
As readers may remember, Haddish revealed back in August that she had contracted the SARS-CoV-2 virus but didn’t experience any symptoms. She sat down with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases director Dr. Anthony Fauci to discuss getting tested, safety measures, and how the deadly virus has impacted Black and brown communities.
