Michael B. Jordan disclosed during an interview with Jemele Hill on Monday, July 19, that his “Without Remorse” co-star Lauren London helped him become a better actor. He credited it to London’s “transparent” take on mourning the loss of a loved one following the murder of her longtime love Nipsey Hussle. Hussle was fatally shot in March 2019 outside of his Marathon Clothing store in Los Angeles.

The film’s premise is about ex-Navy SEAL John Clark, portrayed by Jordan, seeking to avenge the murder of his pregnant wife, a role played by London.

Jordan said during the “Jemele Hill Is Unbothered” podcast that due to the “emotional” aspect of the film, everyone wanted to be “aware and sensitive” when shooting certain scenes. “I think it was very emotional. I think we wanted to be aware and sensitive with that and how we shot some of those scenes.”

He continued, “But also her sharing her experience with me and having pretty lengthy conversations about grief and suffering and what that looks and feels like really helped me get to a certain place as a character. She was really transparent about [grief], and I was extremely grateful for that. She’s very talented and has so much to give.”

The 34-year-old also noted that filming this particular movie was somewhat therapeutic for the mother of two because she could “vent and express” herself when she re-entered the movie scene shortly after Hussle’s death.

“Wanting this to be a little therapeutic note for her as an artist is sometimes our space to vent and express ourselves in a certain type of way, and she felt like it was time for her to do that. So, I just kind of lined up where she was in her life and this project.”

Amazon’s “Without Remorse” production initially began in October 2019. However, it was temporarily halted during the pandemic before ultimately wrapping in October 2020. The film premiered on Amazon earlier this year.

In the past, London shared that her two sons, Kameron Carter, 11, and 4-year-old Kross Asghedom inspired her to go back to work after mourning her longtime love. The 36-year-old said during an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” that she wanted to show her children the importance of moving forward in life despite living with grief.

“We can’t stop. You know, we do have a purpose, all of us. It’s important for my sons to see me moving forward with grief. Not just curling up in the ball ’cause I crawled up in a ball for a long time. But especially for my eldest son because he’s just a little bit more aware that you know we will be sad and we will grieve for a long time forever. But that we will continue moving on as we have to, as Nip would want us to.”
