‘We Back’: Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold Serve Up ‘Everybody Hates Chris’ Nostalgia While Teasing Their Upcoming Project
“Everybody Hates Chris” stars Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold are teaming up again to leave audiences in stitches from gut-busting laughter.
The former on-screen husband-and-wife duo both shared social media posts hinting at a new project. “Hey, y’all, we back! You don’t wanna know, we back!” said Crews in a brief video shared to his Instagram account. Arnold, who is just as excited about their shenanigans, is seen making a series of funny faces, pecking her former on-screen husband with a kiss to the cheek, and echoing Crews’ “you don’t wanna know, you don’t wanna know!”
“The Martin Show” cast member also shared a video of her and Crews dancing outside of a trailer on set. The caption for the twerk-filled video read: “We makin’ moves! We’re back! Doin thangs. Me and @terrycrews up to shenanigans again. Yay! Lol!”
Fans of the comedic actors haven’t seen them share the screen together since the 2009 airing of the fourth and final season of the hit show. The sitcom takes place in the Brooklyn borough of Bedford-Stuyvesant neighborhood of Brooklyn throughout the ’80s. It is loosely based on the childhood of co-creator comedian Chris Rock’s childhood.
Season after season, audiences tuned in to see how penny-pinching father Julius, played by Crews, and overbearing mother Rochelle, played by Arnold, would guide their household of three children’s trials and tribulations of the teenage angst.
For fans, seeing Crews and Arnold together again brought back all the nostalgia of the popular sitcom.
“Watching this video alone saved me $2.7 #classic,” wrote one person referencing Julius’ thrill of saving money in every episode.
“Man that would be lit!!! I still crack up every time I think about that cheap a-s Halloween candy. #gravyways ”
“YOU GUYS TOGETHER MAKE MAGIC!”
In 2016 the outspoken comedian opened up about the significance of casting Arnold to play his mother on the show. “I’ve never gone into battle without a Black woman, you know, a movie battle,” he told Essence. In fact, when it came to his show, Rock claims execs had hoped he would cast a white woman instead of Arnold.
“I had to fight for Tichina. I’m not even going to tell you who the network [UPN] wanted. She’s [Arnold] literally as good as Tina Fey or Julia Louis-Dreyfus or any of these chicks.” Judging by all of the love Arnold received on her video teasing the upcoming project, Rock made the perfect hire.
While the details of the project remain unknown, fans of the show may be in luck in experiencing a reimagined version of “Everybody Hates Chris.” In March CBS announced an animated reboot of the sitcom was in the works. Rock, who narrated the original show, is also expected to resume his narration duties.
